The new Blackberry Bold 9700 is hot off the RIM production line and ready to step up the game. However, they are not looking to reinvent the wheel, but rather to perfect it.

A key element for the revamp is the sheer size of the outgoing Bold. It was bold indeed with a hefty width of 66mm, whereas the sleak new Bold finds its form at 60mm... Okay so it doesn't sound like a lot, but 6mm feels like a lot when you're dealing with something which is smaller than your hand. So RIM have created a sleaker, prettier bold.

With that they have upped the anti with a better camera (to equal the Curve 8900) of 3.2MP. And the OS is now integrated with the app store. They are also moving away from the trackball for a touch sensitive trackpad.

The effect is a smaller, better integrated Blackberry. It still isn't breaking gadget ground like the HTC Hero, but it really is a winner in the Blackberry world.

Although Blackberry, in terms of technology, are not ahead of the pack, they seem to have taken the mindset of their consumers and brought out a range of phones that perfectly cater for our modern needs. Fast email, free internet (including photo uploads to Facebook), voice guided GPS, great multimedia experience and a great tactile QWERTY keyboard. This really is the "B all and end all" of modern gadgetry.
